Learning by Teaching When you teach something to someone else, you really learn it yourself. You are forced to really think about what you are going to teach and how to explain it. This year we are going to have that opportunity! You know that I have long enjoyed working with students and strongly feel that it is the responsibility of every minister and congregation to help prepare the next generation of ministers. This year we will be a “teaching congregation,” a chance for us to think and learn about “Ministry.” Glenn King, one of the students who worked with me last year in Mendon and Uxbridge, will be doing a “Field Education” project with our congregation this year. While Glenn will be preaching this Sunday (again as last year I will usually be in Mendon/Uxbridge on the second Sunday of each month), he will not usually be preaching. The areas of ministry that he will be concentrating on will be pastoral care and work with boards and committees. That is not to say that you will not see him on many Sundays. He will help lead the service, sometimes allowing me to be downstairs with the children’s Religious Education program for the first part of the service, coming upstairs for the sermon, sometimes both of us will be upstairs for the entire service and sometime he will be downstairs working with the children. Glenn and I will visit some of you together, sometimes one of us will visit alone. He will make phone calls to remind you of things that are going on and to urge you to contribute to the Newsletter, etc. I hope that you will feel free to call on Glenn, will include him in activities and give him constructive feedback on things that he is doing well as well as areas that he needs to work on. |

Its Holiday Fair Time! Plans for this year’s Holiday Fair are already well underway and once again—we may be small, but we host a might good Fair! Mark your calendars for November 18th—the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Featured tables will be: The Toy Lady, Food Table, Apple Pie and Cheese, the Center Table, Wreaths, Decorations and Cemetery Boxes, the Gift Table, and Silent Auction. Raffles will be : handmade Quilt, Artist’s Painting, and 50/50. The kitchen crew is planning the usual gastronomical delights to tempt your palate. Suggestions, ideas, and donations are cheerfully accepted. Your help in any way including handmade items and gifts for the center and gift tables, baked goods, decorating and setting up at church and helping to deliver our appeal letter will make this year’s fair as successful as last year (which was a record!) Thanks- Pam Rand, Fair Committee |

Final Count on Guest at Your Table While we are really late getting out the final tally for last year’s guest at your table, here it is. This year we hit a new record with $755.00! A little bit each meal, a little bit each day, a little bit from each of us can really make a difference! |

“An Inconvenient Truth” to be Shown Massachusetts Interfaith Power and Light is making available to churches the film “An Inconvenient Truth” the documentary on the environment produced by Al Gore. This controversial film has been shown in many theaters, but often not local ones and nor for long runs. It is, however, powerful and thought provoking. We will show the film at the church at 7:00 on Thursday, October 5th. Please spread the word and invite people in the community, church members or not. Not everyone will agree with the points made, but there is no question that the issues it raises are important for all of us to think about. Spread the word, come yourself.
