Just Passing Through

The changing of the year is a good time to reflect on the past and plan for the future.  One of the things that I reflect on is how blessed I am to spend this all too brief time in Orange learning with you.  During December, the congregation came together to create the Holiday Fair and the collation for Iva's funeral.  These were wonderful expressions and, while they were group efforts, a group consists of individuals who agree to work together for a common good.  Each individual can rightfully feel pride in his or her having participated in an effort to support our church and to comfort a grieving family.  Margaret Mead said it best "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Holidays Over?

As I write this newsletter column it is between Christmas and New Years, but as you read it, it will be the New Year.  I hope the holiday season has been a good one for you.  Our usual Christmas Eve Candlelight service featured wonderful music by our choirs again this year.  It is wonderful to hear our Bells used and I hope that we can continue to hear them (perhaps every other month?)!  Thanks so much to Elaine Guertin for directing them and it is wonderful to see new faces!

I hope that the new year is starting well for you.  It doesn’t really feel like winter yet, but it will come, I am sure.  As most of you know I will be leaving for a winter vacation in Tahiti on January 3rd but Glenn, will be here to fill the pulpit one Sunday and otherwise provide ministry to you.  Wendy will also lead worship on one of the Sundays that I am away.   I expect to return with lots of pictures (I have a new digital camera and enough memory to take over 3,300 pictures!) but don’t worry, I will not subject you to all of them.  I’ll be thinking of you and hope to come back with lots of new ideas.                         Ralph
